National Service Dogs, located in Cambridge, Ontario, organized an Easter egg hunt exclusively for dogs in Kitchener and Guelph. This yearly event was attended by many canines.
Emma Bluhm, the communications coordinator for National Service Dogs in Cambridge, Ont., explained that the organization had organized an annual Easter egg hunt event for dogs. The event involved scattering the field with nearly 5,000 eggs, each of which contained dog treats. The dogs were then unleashed on the field to find as many treats as they could. The proceeds from the event went towards supporting National Service Dogs and the placement of service dogs for individuals with autism and PTSD.
This is the first time in over two years that an in-person event is being held as part of this annual tradition in communities throughout southwestern Ontario.
One of the participants expressed that the event was incredible, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, as the puppies did not have many opportunities for socialization.
Another participant, Cory Flood, agreed and added that dogs enjoy seeing other dogs at such events.
Bo, his dog, was very successful in the event.
Cory Flood and his family have been participating in the Easter Egg Hunt for Dogs for several years. During the most recent event, they found the golden egg, which is the top prize, and were very excited about it. This was not their first time participating, as they have taken part in the event around nine or ten times.
Emma Bluhm, the communications coordinator for National Service Dogs, expressed gratitude towards the community for coming out to support their event. As a non-profit organization that does not receive any government grants, they rely on community events and donations to continue their operations.
Each service dog they train and place costs $40,000, which is entirely funded by donations. Bluhm emphasized the significance of such events in ensuring that they can continue providing service dogs to Canadians who require them.
The National Service Dogs has raised more than $35,000 towards their target of $40,000 for the Easter egg hunt. Donations can be made on their website.
