Canine Dance-Off: Dogs steal the show as handlers line up to dance

If you’ve been active on social media, you must have come across the Jerusalema dance challenge, unless you have been living in isolation.

A gospel-inspired house song by South African DJ and record producer Master KG has been the catalyst for a dance craze known as the Jerusalema dance challenge.

The trend originated in 2019 when a dance group called Fenomenos do Semba from Angola shared a video of themselves eating while sweeping the floor with their feet.

It has since become a viral sensation with people from all over the world participating.

The Jerusalema dance challenge has gained popularity worldwide, even among those who don’t understand the Zulu lyrics sung by Nomcebo Zikode, due to its uplifting beat. It has also been performed at backyard BBQs.

This trend has motivated a diverse range of people, including law enforcement, students, medical staff, to create and upload their dance performances on social media. A simple search on Google reveals over 133,000 videos for the “Jerusalema dance challenge,” which is quite impressive.

A team of dog handlers and their canine companions from South Africa have put a unique spin on the popular dance trend. They have created a version of the Jerusalema dance challenge that features talented dogs, proving that dance skills are not just limited to humans.

Buttons, a duo of dog trainers, shared a video of their own version of the Jerusalema dance challenge which has become viral, attracting over 2.2 million views. In the video, the two dogs start by being held calmly between their handler’s legs while their owners dance around them. However, when the pace of the song picks up, the dogs join in the fun and start dancing too. The sight of the dogs tapping their paws will undoubtedly bring a smile to your face.

Ultimately, what makes dogs endearing to us is their steadfast faithfulness and love. Their ability to provide us with happiness and solace is incomparable to that of any other creature. The strong relationships between a person and their dog serve as evidence of the potency of that bond.

The reason behind the popularity of the dance challenge could be due to its simplicity that can be learned by anyone through watching videos, or it might be because it has united people during a time where many feel disconnected and solitary.

The Jerusalema dance challenge has served as a reminder that dancing together can bring people joy regardless of their background or situation. It has shown that everyone can participate in the challenge and find happiness in it.
