On Saturday, a child from Kansas gave his tonsils to the Kansas Search and Rescue Dog Association’s (KSARDA) human remains detection dogs for their training.
The KSARDA reported that the boy was able to observe the detection dogs successfully locate his tonsils during a search, and he also made sure to give the dogs extra affection afterwards.
Thy also offered the boy and his younger brother the chance to hide from the live find dogs as well. A hunter even volunteered to go out and challenge the dogs in the process, according to the KSARDA.
The Kansas Search and Rescue Dog Association described the day as enjoyable for all involved.
The director of KSARDA, Deidra Stanley, has stated that the organization usually acquires the human remains they use for training purposes through donations.
According to Stanley, the human remains used by their team are usually donated by individuals who have undergone knee surgery and are willing to donate the bone and tissue from the procedure. This helps the team acquire more recent human remains for their training.
According to Stanley, the process is straightforward.
He said that the process of donating human remains for training is straightforward. “It involves signing a form and having their doctor sign it as well. After that, they can contact us and we will come and collect the item,” Stanley explained.
