Lamb Chop, an adorable Maltese pup who is a survivor of a puppy mill was crowned Worlds Cutest Rescue Dog of 2020 by the People Magazine. Christin Schubert, Lamb Chops adoptive mom met her at Washington Country Humane Society when she went there to find a new companion after the death of her beloved cat Seven. Her plan was to adopt another cat, but the tiny build and the sweet shy smile of Lamb Chop struck her heart right away.
Before she was rescued, Lamb Chop had lived in a puppy mill for years, being forced to give birth to many litters of puppies that her tiny body could not even handle. The trauma of that experience had made her be extremely anxious around humans. When she was brought to the shelter, almost all of her teeth had been decayed and giving her so much pain that they had to be removed. It has resulted in her tongue sticking out often, but now it is only a part of her sweet and quirky personality. She also had several tumors that had to be surgically removed.
After Lamb Chop came to her new home with Christin, she needed some time to adjust to the harmless environment that is filled with love. She was shy and scared at first, but slowly warmed up to her new mom. Christin was patient and allowed her plenty of time to heal and gain confidence on her own. Once she began to feel comfortable around humans, she took her to doggy behavior classes and playdates to help make her feel safe around other dogs. Eventually, it worked.
Lamb Chop has come a long way from the abused and scared pooch that was brought to the Washington County Humane Society. Once her mom submitted her to the Worlds Cutest Rescue Dog contest, votes poured in for her from all over the world. She won the title from among over 10,000 cute rescue pups who entered the contents this year. And this sweet pup with her tongue adorably sticking out very well deserved it!
